Matters of Graves Importance: Costume contests and Halloween fun galore this weekend – Chillicothe Gazette

Halloween is here my friends and this last weekend of the month is going out with more than a boo and a bite-sized Snickers. We are talking about a full-sized weekend here people. Get out those costumes and put on your party shoes Chillicothe because this week’s MOGI is all about the end of October holiday.
Do yourselves a favor and make sure you have your ID on you as you venture out. Everyone is requiring identification to enter their establishments due to costume wearing and you won’t want to miss out on the fun.
The Pour House at Machinery Hall welcomes all covens to their annual Witches Night Out on Thursday. VIBE will be on site printing custom t-shirts and Booizm Entertainment will be spinning music. Every properly costumed Witch will receive a gift and there will also be beverage and food specials.
On Friday, join the Crosskeys Tavern for THICC-O-WEEN with THICC BOIS & Butterfly Blakk. Costumes are encouraged and there will be contests for Scariest Costume, Most Original Costume, and Best Scream. Steiner’s Speakeasy is hosting their annual Dead Celebrity Ball with drink specials, party swag, and a DJ. Dress as your favorite “no longer with us” celebrity for a chance at prizes curated from some of Steiner’s favorite local businesses.
Elks Lodge #52 will hold their fourth annual Howl at the Moon Halloween costume party from 7 p.m. to midnight. Proceeds from this event benefit the Ross County Humane Society and tickets are available on Eventbrite.
The Chillicothe and Ross County Public Library presents “Library After Dark: Abandoned Toys” starting at 7 p.m. What happens in the library after all the patrons leave, the lights are turned off, and the doors are locked? Walk through the haunted library…if you dare. This event is not suitable for children. Wagner’s Roadhouse is also in on the celebration with a Halloween DJ & Karaoke Night. Expect Halloween themed cocktails, yummy food, and $2 domestic cans.
Are you tired? Because we haven’t even talked about Saturday yet. Steiner’s is going for the win with a second night of Halloween fun. Tara and crew have live music with Davey and the Midnights plus prizes for the best costumes. Our friends at Old Capitol Brewing are bringing in Jesse Mitten to play records during the evening from 8 to 11 p.m. along with holding their own costume contest.
Fifty West Brewing Company invites you to come in and pose for a picture in your favorite costume for a chance to win $50 in gift cards for the best dressed award. Voting will be by customers during open hours. Contestants’ pictures will be put on a corkboard for people to vote on. You can stop anytime to compete in the contest. There will also be pumpkin carving and karaoke.
Patrick’s Pub at the Quality Inn invites you to their costume contest and party. Halloween cocktails will be available and free jukebox all night plus a free swag bag while supplies last. The Dock at Water is having their party from 8 p.m. to midnight and will also hold a costume contest during the evening. The Wobbly Ghost wants you to stop by their Halloween Hootenanny from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wobbly is giving out cash prizes for their costume contest and they will also be offering specialty cocktails. If you are in Kingston head to the Kings Inn Tavern for their Halloween party with the Travis Brown Band.
Until next time. I hope to see you out and laughing.
